hi all
If this has been brought up time after time on here please delete
I was wondering if any of you have made your own screen cover and boom canopy?
If you have can you give me some advise on how you did it?
Thanks
Mike
I designed it, and the canvas shop on this site made it and tied it by zipper to the Bimini they made earlier.
I can’t find a picture, but I made a companionway screen with a pine frame, shaped to slide down the hatch board slots. It has a crosspiece across the middle, and the top piece is shaped on the top to fit the sliding overhead hatch. Then I attached plastic screen material to it with 3/4 inch rounded slats. I finished it with black spray paint, and a hasp that allows us to lock it in port. It works as a light, one piece sliding solution, easy to enter or exit with minimum fuss. And it keeps the skeeters and flies out very effectively. And it stores easily in the forward v-berth while we are underway.
I used the profile of the upper pen board, made a frame of plywood, used hardware cloth (screen) for strength and regular window screen for the finer mesh. Tacked it down all around with 1/2 inch half round.
