I am looking for a CompanionWay Hatch for a 1986 Hunter 25.5. Mine got blown off during the Tornados earlier this year. Does anyone know where to begin finding one or having one fabricated?

I am not sure if yours was lexan or not. Why not check to see if SOB Or HOW store can get it for you. If lexan, you can purchase it but be aware of the cost. What ever you do, never use acetone around lexan and you can sand the edges with wet and dry sandpaper using water of course to smooth the edges. If buffing, low speed with a fine compound.

If you cannot get it there, check with a yard to see if they have a piece of scrap that big. A regular sheet is very expensive but it can be purchased from a yard, glass shop, etc..

For those who are looking for parts for your Hunter sailboats, you might try

If you find somebody please revert with a follow up post.
I've been looking around to replace my crazed sliding hatch on a H28.5
Most shops that I've contacted don't do this "small work" anymore and don't even have tailing from prior "big" jobs. It amazed me - its almost not a question of cost but one fellow said to me it wasn't worth the cost of having a worker go look in the back room for a tailing! go figure-

I found that most good yards will have one area where spare lexan is stored or pieces. One such yard is Sailcraft in Oriental, NC and there I found a piece big enough which they sold as it was collecting dust without having to purchase a 4 X 8 sheet.

A reputable yard will know and look
