We took delivey of our 2001 H260 last week. We haven't used the head as of yet. It has a holding tank only. Is there anything we should do to "prep" the head in some way before we use it to keep it "clean" and to prevent any unnessary odors? Also, If we use it to about half full or less, should we pump out if we are going to be away from the boat for a week or so. Thanks, Jay

I think most of your questions are answered in

Articles in the HM forum reference library. There's nothing you need to do to the toilet itself before you start to use it, but yes, I'd definitely use a holding tank treatment--either K.O. or Odorlos. Use C.P. to keep the toilet clean. Never use household chemical toilet bowl cleaners in a a marine toilet. If the tank treatment is working the way it should, there should be no reason to pump out the tank until it's full. However, NEVER overflow it out the vent--it's NOT an overflow, the only thing that should ever pass through the vent line is air...and inspect the vent regularly to make sure it isn't blocked. Read the articles in the library for more detailed answers, and if you still have questions, ask...don't just hope for the best.
