Combi Slipping

Hi all,

I've got a question regarding the COMBI.

The problem:
When you push the control lever forward, the control tube doesn't move for the first inch but then engages and will move if you keep pushing the lever forward. Additionally, water and grease are leaking out of the back of the combi.

What I've done:
At first I thought it was either worn teeth on cog 28-1 (numbers from combi instructions found in the files section of this site) or grooves on 27-1. I disassembled it and unbolted the combi from the rear of the engine but left the prop shaft in place. It turns out that the teeth and grooves are ok, however, if I push or pull 27-1 forward, the whole thing jumps forward before it catches and starts moving the control tube.

My Questions:
1.Has anyone seen this and or know what needs to be done to stop 27-1 from slipping? Could it be that nut 22-1 needs tightening?
2. I assume that any repair will require that the prop shaft be removed far enough so that I can completely remove the combi as this is required to change the seals which I think must be the issue with the grease and water leak. Is it possible to do this while in the water? I'm currently in Las Palmas (was supposed to be leaving for the cape verdes in the next couple of days :( ) and their lift is out of action.
3. If it can be done on the water, how is the shaft removed as the instructions require "fulsome blows on the end of the propeller boss"?

I seem to recall having read somewhere in the group messages that it can be done on the water, but I can't find the post or recall how it was meant to be done so sorry if the info has been gone over before.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Jan
