Tuning
I also have a 22 Columbia. The mast should be first centered with the two lower stays with just enough tension to take the slack out of the wirers. Next, the upper stays should then be tightened to take the slack out of the wirers. The front stay must be adjusted for proper helm. In a 10-15 knot breeze with a working jib up, adjust the front stay for just a small amount of weather helm. It can be done at two turns at a time (tightened for weather and loosened for lee). I have an adjustable back stay. If you don't the back stay should be adjusted so the wire is tight. The front stay when adjusted properly should never be changed when taking the mast down each year. It is a nuisance to readjust.Hope this helps.John
