Practical Sailor
I have never used one of these, but I read a review of four thermoelectric coolers in Practical Sailor. They write that their advantages are that they are lighter and smaller than conventional compressor driven refrigeration units. The downside is that they draw quite a bit of amps (between 4.4 and 4.5) and that they don't really cool stuff a lot (a maximum of 40 degrees below ambient temperature). Of the four they tested (an Igloo, the Coleman Powerchill 40, and two Waeco's) they gave the Coleman the best buy status, writing: "With its leading performance, a removable door, vertical or horizontal positioning, and reasonable price, the PowerChill is the PS Best Choice."Ihope this helps.John R.
