Cold Ambient Temperature

My Cold Machine manual states: "When ambient temperatures drop below 60f it becomes necessary to block off approximately 1/2 of the condenser coil with a piece of cardboard. The cardboard must be removed when the temperature returns to above 60F." Questions: Our temperature typically runs 50-70 this time of the year, sometimes down to 40. How rigid is the 50F; do I need to run down to the boat twice daily to add/remove the cardboard? My electronic module recently failed during cold weather. I had not put cardboard in front of the coil; could this have caused the failure? By the way, thanks to your recommendation, Miller Marine rebuilt my electronic module for $90 and everything is OK now.

Block off 1/3 of your condenser and remove it when temps stop falling below 60 degrees.
