Coil hose

just thought I’d ask what the opinions are with “coil hoses”. I’v now been through three of them in 2yrs and they all develop multiple pin hole leaks. I could put them in the yard as sprinklers.. One just “melted”through in the middle. I use them for deck wash and mainly anchor and chain wash as its retrieved. Hose is stored in the anchor locker. Salt water...And while I’m at it, I use a “handi hose”for potable water and they start leaking after awhile and I dont dare put a nozzle on it..Those are the firemans type hose that wind up on a plastic reel..Now for the big question! What do you use for hoses without having to store a bulky 50’ garden hose?

There was at least one thread on this a year or so ago. Not a very favorable opinion from most folks. Little holes, as you say, at the metal connections. Maybe the hi-buck ones are better, but you get what you pay for, as always. I have one from the deck washdown kit, but it is a vinyl, not a collapsable. I have not used it in the 5 years I've had it.

I went through a couple of the "handi hose" collapsible hoses. They always leaked within a few weeks. For potable water I use a white Marine/RV hose, like this one from Camco, that is safe for potable water. It does take up more space than the other kinds, but it doesn't fail. I added a brass shut off valve to make it easier to control the water flow. Water from ordinary garden hose always has a foul taste and may contain lead and other undesirable stuff.

Use a hose with NSF 61 rating for potable water. Flush it thoroughly before tank fills and never leave it connected to your boat potable system. Observe good hygiene and keep the hose sealed up when not in use. Camco makes a heavy contractors potable hose which rivals the best garden hoses.
