I need some help with this new cockpit table I'm making for our new boat. I have these hinges and need to know if I should screw them right to the pedestal/guard or ? I have looked into pipe clamps and using a backing board.
The other question I have since the arms are two different lenghts. Do I attach the long ones to the table or the short ones? The release is one the long one.
Thanks again.IMG_4169.jpg

I prefer clamping the hinges, most are done that way. Drilling stainless is a pain and the fewer holes in your boat the better. I would attach the longer legs to the table.

Agree with dmax. Edson and Defender sell cockpit table mounting hardware that might make the job easy.

If release is on long arm- that is what you want attached to table surface.
They usually require you to press the two releases simultaneously while lifting up on the table top in order to release the mechanism for lowering. Virtually impossible manoeuvre if release is mounted on the vertical surface facing down.

My table support was a horizontal teak board held to the pedestal guard with stainless pipe clamps. Not band clamps but like conduit/pipe clamps screwed into a floor joist.
With your long brackets I would mount teak or starboard pieces vertically on each leg of the guard, again held with stainless clamps. The long leg goes under the table.

Beneteau makes a nice setup. My OEM worked well, so got a 2nd for a larger table with leaves. Look at a B-boat.
Ward Richardson at Beneteau in Marion, SC 843-629-5320 I ordered some prop zincs and they arrived quickly and were the right size.

While the folding hinges do have some merit, I think they may produce more grief than pleasure. As suggested by others above, rail clamps allow easy removal of the table from the pedestal guard. Our table was purchased from Seateak. It mounts to the guard with a pair of plastic rail clamps. The folding action and table weight are supported by a full table width piano hinge.

You might consider using a handsome type of wood for a cross beam to which you mount the clamps and then piano hinging your table to the cross beam. Of course you’ll need to attach a folding leg (or two) to support the table on the forward end of the table. That’s where your current folding hinge(s) would come in handy. No need to drill holes in the guard.

The table we have is shown below

Thanks for all the suggestions.
The pedestal/guard is 1.5 inches SS tubing. Finding a SS clamp in this size is causing a slight problem. Haven't found any that shipping is a bit expensive. I'm sure I'll find something. But I don't think I will be drilling just clamping.

Grainger and probably McMaster-Carr has SS pipe straps, 2 hole. Or make a clamp a board using a SS u-bolt.

A lot of cockpit tables are attached with SS hose clamps. Not the prettiest but cheap enough.
