I have a 1996 h26 and want to add a stero system. But I am having trouble finding a good location for speakers. Any thoughts?

Thanks

What are the issues with placement? Are you concerned about wiring runs, audio quality, or weather. On my H37C I put four inch West Marine brand speakers in the coaming either side and above the aft locker/seats. In other words one at the right ear and one at the left ear. These were the flush mount without covers. Nine years later the grills deteriorated. Bouncing around in the Atlantic we lost a tweeter on port. So two days ago I bought the exact same set. $30. divided by nine years is ? ? ? It's a Steve Dion thing, he amortizes every boat purchase.

Wow, great investment Ed!

As to placement, if I read you correctly, the coaming is occupied by seat cushion. In my boat, we have cushions above the lockers that extend to almost the end of the cockpit. The end of the cockpit is curved and that will not allow a flush installation.

I have looked into Navpod, who makes speakers that are made to fit under the stern rail seats, that may be my best option.

Thanks

Yes, I have seen the under the rail seat installations. I would think that any box type speaker would work there. The wiring would be the main issue. You could wait until your next Hunter, it will have them in the arch. :)

Under the stern rail seats

I installed my speaker under the stern rail seats. I bought cheap indoor/outdoor speakers ($40) and the bracket screwed in with the screws on the bottom of the seat. I drilled a hole in the hull just under the foremost stern rail seat frame support and then up through the tube until the first horizontal turn. Then drill an exit hole aft. I pulled the speaker wire through with a small wire tie pushed in the hole before I ran the wire. The speakers worked great for 5 years then got corroded on the contacts. Now I have a new $40 set for the next 5 years.

Good thing about having them on the stern rail seats is you can turn them outboard when you're in the water hanging out.

To clarify

The stern rail post I was refering to is not the foremost post but the middle one. The foremost one that actually connects to the seat.
