I want to replace the teak crew seats in the cockpit with plastic/fiberglass/or something that doesnt require varnish. Same with the foot rails on the deck sides. Are there any after-market products that fit this requirement. Are there any aftermarket rear pulpits with the built-in seats available? Thanks, jfh

Don't give up yet

This winter, remove the seats and the slats on the catbird seats. Strip off the varnish and sand down to the wood. Revarnish 3 coats and reattach to the plastic base. What you'll have is a remarkably beautiful pair of seats without any stain or future teak treatment. To preserve the varnish, have a local canopy maker do simple covers that attach underneath with Velcro strips. My covers cost $30 each, and the seats draw raves from guests.

I second Bills idea! We refinished all our teak

and then my wife made some very nice, velcro attached seat covers/cushions with outdoor/uv safe fabric. The seats are beautiful in this original state and the covers protect them while sailing(and my butt). When company comes aboard I toss them the cushion and have them attach it. This draws the required mandatory complimentary remark about the teak. During the winter and while off the boat I simple cover them with a basic canvas type cover. If I can draw approx 365,000 good remarks about the teak it might come close to the total time required to reach this state of beauty. Ray sv Speedy
