A previous owner made this sloppy repair that hasn't made it through my first year with the boat, a 1987 h23. It might be beyond my capability, but I'd like to know how it should be fixed. Thanks, Mac

what is it

Not sure what part of the cockpit I am looking at but assuming the repair is about an inch wrapped around the corner, I think some surface prep with a dremmel tool to remove the old repair, widen some of the cracks, and remove chips would be sufficient, followed by an acetone wash, then gelcoat to fill, and sand to match the contour using an electric palm sander, coarse grit (80) initially to get some shape to it and grind off the high spots, then up to 120, 320, 400 and finally 600 grit. Bondo makes a good two part gelcoat repair and the smallest can is about a half pint and about $10. It looks like that is ding damage, from a direct hit. I have my doubts that there is any structural damage beneath.

It looks cosmetic

I think Roger from Manitoba has it pretty well nailed. The damage doesn't appear to be structural and so should just be a simple cosmetic repair.
