I have had problems with the cockpit drain in my Hunter 18.5 clogging with leaves, pine needles, etc.; then a good rain bringing up the water level high enough to flow into the cabin. Has anyone had made, or purchased, a mooring cover that would alleviate this problem, either for the cockpit or the entire boat?

Blue Tarp

I have a Hunter 26 and had problems having rain seep past the companionway hatch. I just tossed a cheap plastic blue tarp over the boom & secured it with bungie cords. Works fine and it's cheap. There's no reason you can't cover the whole cockpit the same way.

18.5

I USE TO OWN A 18.5. WE ALSO USED A CHEAP BLUE TARP THAT HUNG OVER THE BOOM. IT WAS LARGE ENOUGH TO COVER THE HATCH AND EXTENDED BACK TO COVER THE COCKPIT. I POKED A HOLE IN THE TARP TO BE ABLE TO REHOOK THE TOPPING LIFT. THIS ENABLE THE TARP TO COVER THE COCKPIT.

mooring cover,

The blue tarp as described works on our h23, we do that when spending weekend and it is raining, lets have some more room, I did use a small drinkcup holder , inverted, to put over the drain to keep leaves out last fall, lots of large trees, and it let water out of drain and kept leaves from clogging drain, hope this helps also thought of one of those metal light buld guards to sit on top of drain, to do same thing, good luck Mike B
