cockpit leak catalina 30

this maddening, 82 cat 30 with edson wheel steering, i have used permatex to seal around the insides of the cockpit drains, from below there are no apparent leaks from the cockpit drains or tubing, however,when there is water in the cockpit there is a slow but continuous drip from the steering assembly attached to the rudder with no seen source from above. any suggestions as to possile culprits and crafty solutions? thanks.

Cockput leak...

I had a leak coming from the steering assembly in my 88 C30 this year. It turned out to be leaking at the foot of the pedestal tube on the port side (where the wires are routed). I removed the screws that hold the black plastic foot to the tube and deck, then lifted the pedestal guard enough to get some 3M 400 in there. Then rebedded the plastic foot. Worked like a champ! Might want to check that out.
