Cockpit drains

Our recently acquired 88 C30 has a nuisance problem with standing water in the cockpit from rain and washdowns. Nearly a half inch remains in the forward section, obviously because the floor is tipped forward slightly. I have drained the bow water tank, and moved any weight I can aft to try to change the list aft to no avail. If I put my 180 pounds of body weight on the stern, a slow runoff occurs. I thought of adding weight aft, but do not want to add 200 pounds of ballast in the stern certainly. My question is, have I a common problem or something not right with my boat, and has anyone a fix? Good sailing Ron B

I don't have this problem on my 83 C30TR even with the forward water tank full. However, some thoughts-what is in your anchor locker? How much chain and what size anchor. Is the locker drain working? Has there been any major modifications done to the boat that would result in this weight?

I"m glad to find out another boat does not have the problem. This means there is a fix, and I just have to find it. I have two anchors in the bow, a light danforth, and a light plow, both with 20' of chain. I don't think I could get any lighter and be safe. The locker is drained and dry. There are no modifications to the boat, she is stock 1988 C30. The water tank in the port settee is full as is the fuel tank. I have two medium size batteries in the port settee locker, and one under the quartwe berth. These are all the significant weighty objects, and none can be relocated.Little or nothing is stored in the cockpit lockers. The usual puddle is a nuisance, but I am more concerned that the standing water will eventually find it's way into the cockpit floor and cause delamination. Although, there is no sign of it now. The condition was there when we bought the boat, and I gave it little thought. Thanks for your interest Ron B

Two anchors too

Ron, I've got a 1988 C30 with two anchors too, but my boat does not have your problem. The anchor locker is about as far forward as you can go. That distance gives you a huge lever arm and even you think the anchors are light, the lever arm magnifies the effect of their weight. I keep my second anchor in the rear lazzerette on the starboard side. I've rigged a little holder for my danforth anchor and I keep the chain and line in a canvas bag. You can even install a anchor holder for the danforth on the stern pulpit if you do not want to store in the lazzerette.

I am almost too embarrassed to reply how I have solved the wet cockpit issue. Shortly after buying the boat, I drained both water tanks, and just filled the settee tank. or so I thought. I did shut off the feed line from the forward tank In seaching the problem of the forward list, I checked the inspection plug on the bow tank, and it was filled to the top. I know I did not refill it intentionally, and think maybe it filled from an overflow from filling the side tank? Anyhow,I ran it dry, and now I drain just fine. Pretty stupid. I also think it a good idea to move the Danforth anchor to the stern rail, both for better weight distrubition, and as an emergency brake. I live on the Intracostal, and must run bridges often, which can be nervous running on a swift fair tide, and an engine fails. I knew Frank Butler would not build an obvious flaw into a boat. Good ailing Ron B

sameproblem

My boat lists to port and the cockpit floor is not pitched enough I added battreys under the Q bearth and this helped plus I hang astern ancor on my rear pulpit and have refer in laseret with extra ancor and chain and some tools when I was at a dock It drain enough to dry in a fewhours put on a moreing I have a heavey chain and a10lb mushroon ancor on the chain and the boat pulling on the pendents It stays wet longer I put dri deck from W/M down on the cockpit floor It helps with where and tear and my dogs hair. (A Germen short hair pointer) hair gets in the cockpit drains and down the stearing quad and the hair cloges the drain. The WM mats hold the hair down and I can sweep it up at the end of the weekend. When Im not on bord I keep the mat together and rolled up.The mat gets alittle rubery when in the hot son .I also put a SS pipe with fittings from the qbearth bunk to under side of cock pit floor to stiffen the cockpit floor . I dont think there is a problem there but It stiffened the floor up for walking when there is a boat full of people. Hope this helps John Olson

Just thinking

But my boat is a tallrig with a 35LB CQR on the bowsprit and It has a wing keel maybe the newer boats sit alittle difrent then the 5' fin keel I noticed there seems to more boats with a portlist and a wing keel. John
