CATALINA MK2 42 NEWPORT
Hi All Catalina owners, I'm seeking advise from you all on how best to set up my two rear cockpit lockers. They are deep which make storage of smaller items, ropes, brushes and other stuff , an issue. I have the Mk2 - 42 foot model if this helps with any suggestions. Thanks so much! Rick

Things I've seen:

1. shelves

2. wood epoxied to the transom with dowels to hold lines

3. bungee cords attached to screws to hold lines

On my boat I have two large bags that fill the spaces. The bags sit on hooks, so that they can be removed. There is room under the bags for items I don't use often, like extra fenders, the emergency tiller, etc. I plan to fit boxes into this bottom space to help keep things better organized. I keep lines in one bag, and life jackets in the other. I've thought of adding a board to fit inside the lip of the line bag. I could put hooks, or cleats, on that board. That way many of the lines could be hanging into the bag. This would help keep them organized and easier to get. One thing I like about the bags is that it insures that (hopefully!!) nothing jams into the stearing quatrant or cables.

These door hooks from the home improvement store are working great for me.

Lines hang neatly organized instead of in a pile or bag and they don't get tangled up with one another. Makes finding exactly what I need easy.

If i can't reach an item in the dumpster I use a Pikstik that i got at a local ACE store. Hope this helps.
