Thought I would post a couple pictures of the new cockpit cushions Ruth made before the trip. We are really happy with them. We like the stiffness of the dryfast foam and the material. We had a lot of dew the first days and have had some rain and they don't remain soggy like the old ones.

They are also easier to store vs. the original long ones and we have more options on how many we want in the cockpit at one time. Here is a link to cutting the cushions....

...we normally don't leave the cushion by the companionway in place while sailing/motoring.

Also there are 2 pictures showing the cockpit bed slats and the cushions on the bed with the filler piece that goes over the traveler. The bed sets up or down in a minute and the slats store on one side in the Laz. A link to the bed build......

.... We only used the bed outside one night. It has been one cold front after another with temps in the 40's and high 30's.

We just spent 4 days at Jensen's Twin Palms in a cottage with the boat in a slip here in Captiva. Nice area, but expensive. We were on the water for almost 2 weeks on the anchor at night and will now return to that tomorrow for the duration of the trip.

It has been cold, but we still like it here and plan on returning to southern Florida in the spring, but further south.

Very nice. I like your project site. I suppose you have to be careful where you anchor. Your bedroom is kind of exposed. Might be little kids around. :)

Anything on the bottom to keep them in place when heeled?

mine stay put because the backrest is strapped onto a side rail, and the covers are jammed under that, which works ok because I also sit on the windward (high) side..

Hey Ed that is something we will have to keep in mind:redface:.

Bill, what is heeling? I don't think they are any slippery than the old ones. I guess we will see if that is a problem. Motored today back up to Pelican into a head wind the whole way, so couldn't even motorsail like we did going down.

We did want to do one more thing to the cushions, but ran out of time to do it at home. We are going to take them off and send them home at the end of the trip so that we can sew straps on them where the zippers are. That way we can put them down into the cockpit and run a line through them at night and not fear that they might get blown over board.

We had thought about putting straps on the bottoms, but sometimes when they are wet they are dry on the other side and we just turn them over and didn't want to then end up sitting on the straps.

Sum

Those really look nice! Very functional, and I like the one that one goes across the companionway, and the way you accomodated the traveler. Awsome work Ruth!

If you can spare Ruth send her and her magic sewing machine my way. Since Penny went to the big regatta in the sky I don't have the talent. You guys have done a magnificent job. Keep up the good work and keep the post improvements coming. Bless Us Lord, Thy sea is so great and my boat is so small. Fair Winds and Full Sails....
