If you purchased the Cockpit cushions from Hunter are they worth it? The dealer wants $570. I have looked other places and they are almost $700. This is for a 290.

Eric: It depends on how much comfort is worth. $648 for bottomsiders, high quality and very comfortable! Don't know what the other brand is getting but they are probably close. Like mine and so does my a**!

Bottom siders
I have had two sets, one for my '28 and the other set for my 320. I have been more than satisfied with them. I was not overly impressed with the ones provided by Hunter and chose to buy the bottom siders. Regards. Bruce Neon Moon

Not Safe Under Sail
A set of cockpit cushions came with our 376. They are nice at the dock, but under sail they become dangerous. If you step on the cushions coming back into the cockpit after going on deck (especialy in high seas or with 20 degrees of heal) you can have the cushions come out from under you and get seriously hurt. Been there, done that. Now we keep them in the cabin while under sail. RREGGE S/V Allie Kat

Slipping cushions
We had the same slipping problem with our 376 cockpit cushions until I took some appropriately cut lengths of that non-slip material you can buy in rolls most anywhere these days and put it under the cushions. After that, the cushions stayed put no matter what the heel and wouldn't slip out from under foot except under the most extreme conditions. At that point I put them below because I was afraid they were going to blow away!

Did you just add strips or did you cover the whole area of the cushion? Another question, did you glue the non slip stuff to the cushions and if so with what?

Non Slippers
On our 430 the cushions came with a snap on the outboard edges which allows them to be attached to the seat. Can't imagine an 8 hr sail with no cushion..OUCH!!!

Non-slip material for cushions
In answer to Colin Campbell's question about how I use that non-slip material to keep my cushions from sliding, I cut lengths slightly shorter than the cushions themselves and that was enough to keep the strips out of sight. I decided not to glue them on the bottom of the cushions for ease in cleaning but I suppose some strategically placed Velcro patches would work just fine. The one annoyance factor I found is that when you open a seat locker, the non-skid drops into the crack and then you have to rearrange it. Somehow sticking it to the bottom of the cushions would pretty much eliminate that problem. Our H-460 has custom cushions with hold-down snaps. They work fine but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they get pulled out and then it's back to the non-slip stuff.

I too am in the process of researching and purchasing cockpit cushions. Bottom siders appear to get 5 star ratings everywhere I turn. See HOW store site for reviews. I posted a similar question last week and the only downside report was stay away from the Navy blue I desired. It gets too hot in the summer. I'm still thinking of Navy blue(matches everthing else I own and hides the dirt)but I'm going to cover it with a terry cloth cover during the times of intense sun. good Luck in your search.

I purchased the set at Strictly Sail - Chicago last year and received a 10% discount so the price was more than fair. Also, at the boat shows, you may be able to pick up a square cushion in the color you want for a good price. They are great for a back rest.
