I am looking to purchase cockpit cushions this winter. I can't seem decide which route to take as far as maintenance, wear and tear, esthetics go. It is a toss up between the Bottomsiders at HOW or Custom Sunbrella cushions made locally for our Hunter31 1986. My concern is the the vinyl bottomsiders getting hot in the summer sun.We are looking at Navy Blue to match sail cover and bimini. On the flip side with a 8,6 and 2 year old aboard eating and drinking, I'm concerned about the sunbrella material staining. The white Ameriseam looked difficult to keep clean. Looking forward to any suggestions or comments

This is what we did.

Alan: We also have an 8 year old that always has dirty feet (our Schnauzer named Rosalee). We went with the gray Bottom Siders from HOW. We made terry cloth covers for them (dark blue). When the weather is damp or rainy we just pull off the covers and use them as they came from the factory. When the weather is HOT we put the covers on. They are inexpensive and can be replaced every few years and the Bottom Siders stay clean (and are easy to clean too). We have the best of both world with this arrangement. Just a side note. We also had a mouse invasion last spring. 2 or 3 of the little SOB's. They decided the Bottom Siders looked good enough to eat and started munching on the end of one of the cushions. We call B.S. and they sent us a bottle of the vinyl paint to touch up the spot (No Charge). Great service and a great product. What else can I say.

Bottom Siders

I ordered bottom siders form the HOW site as well. They take about 6-8 weeks so we have not received them yet. We got the white with the navy pinstripe. I like them because they cannot soak up water and do not require you to install snaps to keep them in place (I hate snaps). I do like Steve's idea re the terry cloth covers as the vinyl can be sticky when it is hot and humid. We also got the Ameriseam BJ seat cushions though HOW and those are nice. For the benches tho I thought the bottom siders would be best. Just my preference. Anything is better than nothing for sure. w

Ameriseam

I have had Ameriseam for 5 years. Teenagers and dogs have tried to ruin them without success. Still look like new. Easy to clean. I would go with them again
