anyone know where we might pick up some used cockpit cushions for
an Oday 28' ?
new ones would require taking out a 2nd mortgage, which we cannot afford.
like boating second-hand shops?? salvage yards? :

thanks. :)

You might try repurposing some cushions: try an outdoor / patio section at a home repair store like Lowes. Look for the indoor/outdoor cushions for swings. They are usually 48-60" long, and they are made for outdoor use. If you take them in after every use, you could use indoor cushions for a bench or a window seat. All my cockpit cushions are about 70", so my wife bought several of these cushions and sewed them together. They work great, and they cost very little. Online options exist too. In fact, I think my wife ordered ours online from a place selling outdoor cushions.

Oh, and any cushions from an old boat are likely to be as old, and stained-er and stinky-er than the old boat!

Thanks,

Andrew

Do you have the original cushions to use as a template? I needed cockpit cushions last year, but didn't want to pay the price, so I sewed simple covers for the existing cushions using the cushions as a template. I used "outdoor" fabric rather than Sumbrella and saved a bundle. I am not an expert sewer by any means, but they came out so well, I then made lifeline pads, life ring cover and a few other things. Find someone with a sewing machine and for short money, they can probably make the covers.
