Yes, we need 'em for our O'day 28. No, we don't have $700 for new ones. But we do have a sewing machine. 1. What kind of cushion material do you like best for your backside whilst crewing/riding? 2. Where can you find same material at a less than arm-and-a-leg price? 3. What would be an appropriate covering material (i.e. Sunbrella, vinyl, etc.)? 4. How does a DIY (do-it-yourselfer) attach these to the cockpit seating areas so they don't slide off when heeling? Any other thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated. Don Casey's book on canvas repair is on my birthday wishlist. Thanks. Flyhop

Go to sailrite and get the canvas workers

boat. For the moment forget about Don Casey, he's ok but he writes books. There are others that earn their living in canvas work and write books. Look to those people.

can be HOT to sit on!

Fly: Be careful when you select a material for covering the foam. It can be very hot to sit on. Something that does not stick to bare skin is helpful. Think about some type of a snap to secure them in place. Closed cell foam it the ticket for cushions but the cost is expensive.

Check this dude's site out

See the link Below. This will be the model for my cushions as soon as my accountant frees up the funds for materials.

Another option

is to use individual cushions that double up as class D PFDs, the throwing type. We carry a half dozen of them and they are comfortable to sit on and get stored in the cabin. Not as fancy as a full bench cushion but affordable and comfortable and if someone falls overboard then toss away!

Sunbrella

We made ours, I bought the sunbrella material off of ebay, 10 yards for 115 bucks, then ordered the 3 inch foam from a local guy, 78 bucks. Ordered the piping from Sailrite. My wife spent a couple of days sewing them up. She swears she'll never do it again... Instead of snaps or velcro we just lay a strip of non-skid under each cushion. It seems to work pretty well. Oh, pacific blue, looks great! but it gets a little warm. Good luck.

Foam suppliers??

I appreciate the ideas. What I need now is an inexpensive answer to the question "where can I find foam?" A search on Google was mind-boggling!
