Can anyone tell me the best way to bring the main/jib halyards back to the cockpit on a '75 C22? It would make single handed sailing alot easier. I don't like the idea of going forward on the deck with no one in the cockpit. Also, is it a good idea/possible to put roller furling on it (I keep mine on the trailer)? thanks in advance...

Furler on a trailer-able boat

I was looking at CDI (Cruising Designs Inc.) for my boat & noticed they advertized their furlers work exceptionally well on trailerable boats. I'd be interested if anyone had owner opinions?

CDI Furler

I have a CDI furler on my 89 Catalina 22 and I also keep my boat on the trailer. It appears to work well for me even though it does make stepping the mast a little harder. It is nice not to have to go on to the foredeck to drop a sail, espcially with young children on board. I like mine most of the time. I have had it jam up on me in heavy wind one time-that was not fun. If you make sure it set up correctly it shoud give you no problems. Good Luck Geoff

cockpit controls/Furler

I have a Harken 00 furler from Catlina Direct on my 22 and love it. Works great. The main thing is to not get the jib halyard to tight. It impedes the furling. The forestay carries the sail. An adjustable backstay is handy. Make sure you get a furler that also allows reefing. Some are only furlers. Feel free to contact me directly at c22windrose@hotmail.com if you have more questions I might answer.

I just led my lines aft on our 1981 Catalina 22 "PING". I contacted Catalina Direct and got all the parts needed and direction including cutting off one loop on the handrail. it worked out nice. Alan
