Looking for cockpit controls for throttle/shift. Who has controls that are out of the way (don't want to be jabbing myself on the lever) and look good? Does anyone know of controls with removeable handles? I've seen pictures of one that uses a winch handle, but I don't know where to find it. Thanks Ed

Outboard Controls

Hi Ed, I recently purchased my ODay 25, which came with a remote control for my 9.9 Yamaha outboard. It has both the throttle and shift lever as well as an electric start and is mounted on the tiller. I haven't used it, but it seems a rather handy solution. Robert

Spinlock Control

Answered my own question by accident. Found the control in a West Marine Catalog. I had been looking at Morse controls in the "Engine" section of the catalog. Found the Spinlock kit in the sailboat section on page 973 of the 2001 master catalog. Called a ATCU Engine Throttle Control Kit. Fits to a Morse SL3 throttle/shift control.

Think it through

I have experienced an outboard with fixed controls on my sailboat. Seems handy at first blush, but really limits the mobility of outboard, and some of the cool things you can do with an outboard. I had basically a fixed position motor that was impossible to control in reverse and funky in slow maneuvering, until she could get enough water over the rudder to control. If you are going to steer the motor by tiller control, why not use the tiller throttle? Good luck. I prefer regular outboard controls.
