Great comfort

Don't know about osmosis. We have a 1997 P42. The cockpit and sundeck area are the best of any boat this size at anchor. We often remove the wheel at anchor and store it on the stern rail to give better access to the stern cockpit bench. We have full cockpit seat cushions that snap in made by Ameriseam, the people who make the sundeck cushions. We have full bimini and full height plastic windshield that can roll up or down along with full enclosure for rain days, which will open outward like bird wings for sunshades at anchor. No other boat can compete with the comfort and the privacy of this boat.

Cockpit is fine

You're right, it is small, but the sun deck aft of it is terrific. Bottom line, the boat has far more _useable_ deck area than aft cockpit boats with larger cockpits. the only dimension in the cockpit that's really critical is the length of the benches. Are they long enough to lie on? On the P-42, they are.

Like Phil said...

...the cockpit is "fine". Get's small fast with more than 4 people. Wheel takes up a lot of room, we got a wheel mount from Edson and put it in the arch (BBQ is on the stern rail along with bbq table). I wish the seatbacks were a bit higher, but can certainly live with it. Ours is also a '97, a great boat!!! Any questions feel free to e-mail me at bhill@telephia.com.

Osmosis issue

Our 430 is in the yard now for a gelcoat peel and bottom rehab, after only 4 years in the water, so you can get boat-pox in a short time. Fortunately, Hunter's 5 year warranty, while limited in what it covers, is helping us greatly. "Plastic boats just disolve!"

P42 Osmosis

My P42, hull 109,has been in the Virgin Islands since Sept 93 and no osmosis problems. Great cockpit comfort. Prior to my P42 I had my H37C here for 7 years with no osmosis problems.

Great comfort

I agree with Brad - the P42 is just a great all around boat - lots of room down below, the back deck is outstanding for just relaxing and watching the sun go down, and the boat is very stable and forgiving. We have a 1990 and have had no problems at all on the hull. Bill

P-42 cockpit

Can only comment on a 1990 that is one the west coast. No osmosis has been found, but I'm told correctly or not, that it may be because of the cold water here that is usually in the 60's. With several coats of paint it lasts 3-4years partly because of the cold water. Cockpit is a little tight getting around the wheel but it can be stored readily at anchorage. Cockpit cushions and aft deck cushion work great but should be cleaned regularly underneath if left on. Prefer the mast head rig perhaps because I'm used to it, and don't plan on running a spinaker Well thought out boat for interior with good engine access on 62hp Yanmar, IE starter and fuel pump on same side as access door unlike the 45. 8kw Northern Lights generator will run both heat/AC units at the same time with other stuff as well. Fast under sail or power. Only complaint is the location of the engine guages and two toggle switches that can be accidentally turned off if someone sits in front of them. I can be reached at georgelakesiii@yahoo.com if you like. P.S. There are at least 3 that I know of for sale here.
