Looking at replaceing old wooden cleats in cockpit.
Was thinking of adding clamcleats for jib sheets , where should I place them? Also putting Barton Winchers over my Lewmar 7 winches.
adding Lewmar 6 winch on starboard cabin top for cockpit reefing.
Any thoughts ?

Dan, A previous owner of Beowulf added stainless steel cleats just aft of
the jib sheet winches, leaving the old wooden ones where I guess yours are,
just forward of the winches. I am very happy with this arrangement. I will
be very glad to know whether the Barton Winchers work. I have been eyeing
them with secret longing for some time. Tom

I use pinch cleats (once around and a little yank locks it). More versitile
than a cam cleat - can be used for mooring lines, e.g. Look like a standard
cleat but made to pinch the line.

I made some replacement cleats to replace the originals but ran into a problem when I went to install them. There is a fiberglass shelf under the forward cleats and I couldn't get a wrench on the nuts. I guess the shelf is there to add stiffness and have not been anxious to hack into it. Has anybody dealt with this problem?

I don't think I have one on my Series I Vega, but maybe drill a couple of holes in line with the fasteners, big enough to get a tool through. It should'nt weaken the brace.
