I am wondwering what experiences people have had shipping boats longer distances. My C 34 is in Ft Pierce. Would like to move it to Anacortes. One quote dry shipping was 11500. With discount for cash am getting a quote of 10k from Dockwise.com from Ft Lauderdale to Vancouver BC. Any one with experiences and recommendations greatly appreciated

My Experience

I just moved Calico Dragon a C320 from Noank, Ct to San Diego in April. The move can be pretty expensive but we are happy with our boat so keeping her had value over selling and buying something different when we got here. The move itself went pretty smoothly. I believe the shipper was Cam Transport. It was the same shipper Catalina used to ship boats to Ct. Suggest that you also check the additional fees on top of the shipping. It was about $1000 to actually get the boat off the truck and into the water with the mast stepped but not rigged. Here most marinas do not have those facilities like they do in New England. Due to the shipping cost I decided not to have Calico Dragon shrink wrapped for the journey. In retrospect I'd change that decision as there was a lot, I mean a lot, of cleaning from all the road grime. Still for us, Calico Dragon is part of the family so we're happy that if were are going to continue sailing our own boat that we shipped her rather than selling and re-buying. Bill
