Illinois still requires the decals , but you won't need to post the state registration letters any more. The state registration card has a diagram of where to post the IL decals on federally registered vessels- most end up on the stern on either side of the vessel name and home port.rblevens said:Received my coast guard documentation today. Now what do I do?
Do I keep my state of Illinois title? When I go to sell the boat do I give up the Illinois title or the coast guard documentation for the sale to the new owners?
Not planning on selling it by the way.
Rick
I would keep the title as proof of ownership. Some states are very picky about that when it comes time to sell the boat. Documentation is nice in several ways. We move our boat around a lot, from Florida to Massachusetts and back, and plan to visit the Bahamas and Cuba, and having a documented vessel just makes cruising easier. No messing with state registration offices, and foreign countries favor documented boats.Do I keep the IL title or is not needed anymore?
I was told yes this is the case for where I live but each state might be different. SCrblevens said:What I wanted to know is:
Is the Coast Guard documentation certificate the same as a title?
