CNG Regulator pressure limit

So it looks like filling my old 1990 Hunter CNG tank is next to impossible in New Mexico and southern AZ these days with the low pressure rating (2250) on the 72cuft tank. Everyone is using the CNG Vehicle filling connectors and they freak out when I show them my tank, the connection and the low pressure limit and refuse to fill it.

So I am looking at getting a 3000 PSI type 1 CNG tank but I was wondering if anyone new that pressure rating on the regulators used. The gauge goes to 5000 PSI, so you would think the regulator would too, but I do not want to make that assumption.

I am not inclined to switch to propane. I know I can get a new tank for $350 bucks but they regulator could cost some $$$$...

Any body know facts on this? Anybody adapt to CNG vehicle fittings/tanks?

I have the regulator in my hand and the only thing that I can find on it is the overpressure circuit hose which is rated to only 3600 psi.
On a related note, I did a little re-plumbing to change out the tank fitting to a propane quick connect and changing the gage to a 100 psi one. After adjusting the pressure on the low side regulator (there are two a smaller high pressure and a larger low pressure) all the appliances work on propane. to adjust the pressure take the big flat blade screwdriver cap off and turn the shaft.

3000 psi, my gauge also goes to 5000.

Can you find a "Swap" place for the newer tanks (heck, yours has to be WAAAY old) and just keep it? Not suggesting theft or anything...

We are fortunate to have a swap place within 1/4 mile of our slip. Or Steve Dion has made the fill adpater and offered its use to me, nice friend. We have a backup on board, which reminds me, I have to go swap it out ($24) so i don't run out. Thanks for the reminder.

Good luck.

Stu: The invite is still open. Let's get together and fill those bottles and empty a few of the others,

We are ready for or annual trip to the CNG station in Woodlands. You can also be a recipient of CHEAP CNG.
