Anyone racing the 28.5? If so, how does it do with its rating and is it competitive with others against which it is matched (spin vs. non-spin classes)?

Racing the 28.5

We've raced our deep keel 1986 28.5 in the northern Chesapeake Bay for many years in non spinnaker and cruising fleets with a PHRF rating of 174. We do very well, particularly in light air, because we wet sand a hard vinyl racing bottom paint; have a decent set of well cared for sails ; a 'head foil' system on the head stay and Martec folding prop. Years ago the Hunter dealer in Havre DeGrace, MD set up one of the first 28.5's for racing and was Northern Bay high point in class B. If you are interested, there is a Yahoo group specifically for 28.5's: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/twentyeightfive

We Race ours

We race ours on Lake Erie and do pretty well. Fast bottom good sail's and a folding prop for starter's will make the boat competitive. You need to do the rest. You should join the group I started we have about 45 memebers and we talk allot about racing the boats. You can reach me off site at cliffr@sbcglobal.net for a little more on getting set up on the group. Cliff "Red Dog"
