You can rebuild yoru compass, Richie sells all of the parts (gaskets, globes,etc.) and you can get the fluid at most marine stores. They used to use purified mineral spirits but have changed to something new. Total for parts and fluid was <$75, total time to rebuild about 1 hour most of which was spent filling the globe back up and eliminating ALL of the air bubbles. Cost of a new compass was >$175. I figured my time was worth $100 an hour and being able to say I did the work was kind of nice as well.

Polishing compound or something like Meguire's "PlastX" usually will clean it up. You can get this stuff at WalMart or other automotive waxes/cleaners store section

I used

I used one of the headlight restore kits on mine. Took just a few mihutes and it looks like new.

OK thanks all. Will try the old toothpaste trick first...easy and cheap and have what I need right now. But if that fails I'll go looking for 3M Headlight Lens Restoration System and see if I can find it...or something like it... here in OZ
