Close through hulls

I had the rule of closing through hull valves reinforced this weekend. We were sitting in the cockpit at the dock when the bilge pump came on. This is unusual since my bilge on my 91 30T is always dry. Anyway, after investigating I found my raw water intake hose at the engine leaking. I removed it and cut the end off and tried to reattach. Forget it. The hose kept disintegrating. This seems like a short life for an expensive hose (all fresh water too). Has anyone else experienced this? I was going to replace this hose with an automobile heater hose but found out you should have a hose that can withstand the pressure if the hose is blocked or partially blocked.

Hose

We used heavyduty hose for the same reason you outlined. Even if you close your Kingston cock upon leaving your boat, this is not a hose you want to fail on you. We used hot water hose for durability (i know it's not hot water). the same hose as would be purchased for running to your hot water heater from your engine. Doug

Use Parker

Look in the phone book under hydraulics for a Parker dealership, they sell the very best hose for high tempratures and pressures. Just pick out the one with the best rating possibly even with a Teflon lining, this may cost a little more than car heater hose but it will last forever.
