I am looking for a better way to connect the clew of my loose footed main on a C-30. The current slug on the boom is not a great solution. Anybody have a better way? I know this has been discussed before, but I thought maybe there are some new ideas out there.

Strop it

The slug was never intended to take all the clew loads and still be easy to adjust while the sail is loaded. Make up a spectra strop to hold the clew down close to the boom. The strop will carry most of the sheeting load and lower the load on the outhaul.

Some other options

Harken has some examples on their site: http://www.harken.com/rigtips/outhaul.php I'm planning on going to a loose footed main and adding a bit of track and a roller bearing traveler car.
