I had been told that a bronze wire brush, actually a wheel driven by an elecric drill motor, was the proper tool to remove hard growth from a bronze prop. I am having trouble finding a bronze wire wheel so I am wondering if a steel wire wheel will work as well and not harm the prop. Thanks in advance.

An ordinary steel wire wheel will leave bits of steel embedded in the surface of the prop which will rust. Perhaps a stainless steel wire wheel would be OK, but the best would be a bronze one.

I can appreciate the difficulty in finding a bronze wheel. Have you checked this site or googled for it?

More on cleaning the prop

McMaster-carr on the web has them.

I checked McMasters-Carr and found several brass wire brushes on page 2684. Wire size indicates how fine or coarse the brush is. Do you have any recomendations? Thanks again.
