Hello,

As I was connecting my shore power line today, I noticed it is no where near the clean yellow it used to be. It has fallen victim to the grime and dirt of the marina. Has anyone found a good way to clean these.

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

I use Spray Nine Marine or non-marine. Amazon Inflatable Boat Cleaner also works pretty well. Don't use acetone or it will damage the surface and ultimately make it much worse. If you must use a solvent to remove tar or other stubborn stains, try mineral spirts.

I use Purple Stuff from the auto parts store. I use it on fenders and dock bumpers too. Don't use it or let it sit on aluminum. I believe it is simply a very strong strength detergent, but it works; used it for a carb overhaul.

If your power cord (or any other vinyl object) has become 'gooey' and the goo is what is attracting dirt, etc., this 'molding assist compound' (DOP) that eventually oozes to the surface of vinyl is s-l-o-w-l-y soluble in light weight mineral oil. Apply the oil, let soak for several hours, then 'scrubby-pad' off the goo + dirt.

Also, the solvents in "PB-Blaster" (a light weight mineral penetrating oil) will accelerate the soak time; but still, allow the "PB Blaster" to soak as long as possible. The soak timing depends on how much the goo has oxidized on the surface.
