Does anyone have any thoughts on how best to clean the cushions on the settee in our main salon. This would be covered in the Hunter standard dark blue upholstery with the beige dots. I'd be interested in what method worked well for you. Thanks.

We just take them off the foam and wash them in the washer with cold water. Air dry. The hard part is putting them back on the foam.

If you are going to do that, it's better to put the covers back on the foam while they are still damp. The foam helps the fabric retain it's shape.

Assuming your 426 is the same as my 2005 44ac, you won't be able to take the fabric off the foam. It might be best to find a carpet and upholstery cleaning company to do that for you.

If you must clean them yourself, use low moisture and dry quickly.

Check to see if the fabric can be washed. Our fabric is dry clean only.

Firstly, are you needing just to get stains/grime off the outside fabric? If so, previous suggestions seem great ... Not much different than the approach for cleaning a home sofa. Can't see why any carpet/upholstery cleaning firm can't do it at your home.

I notice that you are in WI. So if DIY, take the cushions from your boat to your well heated home before doing. Or wait until spring with several warm and low humidity days in the forecast. Immediately after surface scrubbing with upholstery cleaner, suck moisture away with a wet-dry vac. Do it again with only water to remove the cleaner residue. Dry in the sun.

If mold/mildew has invaded into the foam, then the foam itself can be improved by soaking in a mixture of water and swimming pool chlorine in a plastic garbage can. Drip dry. Wring out. I've driven my car tires over my foam to accomplish this. (DAYOR ... Do At Your Own Risk on this!). Then let dry for several days in hot sun. Has worked for me.

But if as indicated by a previous poster, the fabric and foam on your boat are fused together, and you need to clean deeper than just the surface fabric, then perhaps a flood recovery type of firm would be who you should consult. I suspect that if you have the cushions at home, they can do it pretty easily.

Thanks for the suggestions. We're actually live aboards and we're currently hiding out for hurricane season at St. Simons Island Georgia. Tough life I know. The cushions are just getting a little soiled from use, no major stains or anything like that. I'm going to call a couple local upholstery cleaning firms - I'll post the results. Thanks again.

I use a Bissell Green Machine for everything. I did take the cushions off of my 86 Beneteau and washed them in a large machine at a laundrymat. It's a bear getting the covers back on. There are several posts on here with great suggestions. You can use a plastic bag and vacuum to compress the foam like a space bag. The hard part for me was getting the buttons back in.
