Cleaning Running Rigging (Lines)

How do I wash rigging.

I soaked them in the tub with some dish soap but they never seem to look clean.
I considered putting it in the washing machine but worried if they might get wrapped around the spindle.

Suggestions?

Try putting the lines in a pillow case or a mesh laundry wash bag like this one:

Washing machine in a laundry bag or pillow case works fine. Be sure to use some fabric softener on the rinse cycle too.

I sometimes lay my lines in lazy loops on my driveway and clean them with a 1600 psi powerwasher. Works nicely. Wear boots to hold the line down.

If you do go the washing machine route, use a laundry soap, like Ivory or Dreft, rather than a detergent.

One line per bag though, I did 3 halyards at once, took 30 minutes to unsnarl.
