I am currentlyt restoring a '75 C27, and the rubrails are black from 28 years of banging into things. How can I clean them? I tried rubbing compound and then acetone which helped some, but it is just not strong enough. Is there a stronger chemical or cleaning agent that would do the trick? Thanks.

worked for me.

I had a lot of black marks on the rub rails of my Capri 18 from the lines that held on tarps for winter protection. I used full strength Simple Green and a cloth diaper. I had very little trouble getting the rails clean and really didn't need to scrub too hard. I did find that it worked best when the sun was fairly strong and the rails felt a bit soft.

Thanks Tom....what is Simple Green?

Dear Tom, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm curious where I can find Simple Green. What is it ordinarily used for? Bob Shafer

Simple Green...simply go to the store,

its usually found where your window cleaners or kitchen cleaners are located. if not try one of the many hardware or automotive stores..you know where you buy things.....comes in a plastic bottle just like 409 or windex..
