I just purchased a Cat 30; the boom seemed a bit pitted. What types of polish should I use(or avoid) to bring back a clean look? Are home cleaners/polishers bad for the finish? Should I avoid cleaners/polishers such as Noxon? Thanks for the help.

Aluminum

We had a discussion a couple weeks ago about polishing aluminum which melded into polishing anodized aluminum. I suppose if the aondizing is bad enough, polishing with a product that says "Do not use on anodized aluminum" isn't an issue, huh? I've been trying out 3Ms Aluminum polish on some different items & it seems to work pretty good. Just keep turning the rag while polishing. Worth a shot! LaDonna

Polishing Spars

Dennis, Just pulled mast to re-rig. We used kerosene and a fine scotchbrite to polish mast. Did a great job, you will get lots of black oxidation off-use plenty of rags. After kerosene, spray mast with WD40 twice and wipe to remove remainder of kero, let dry a few days then wax. Care not to scrub hard, although if you have pits as we did, you probably can't do much more damage to the anodizing. Good luck.
