I'm totally new to sailing and just bought a 74 Catalina 22 that needs some cleaning up. One problem is that the trim around the windows, which I think is aluminum, is dull and ugly. Is there a good cleaner and polish for this?
Hi, My new style doesn't ahve this extruded trim around the wondows but it does have some other Aluminum pieces. What I used was some increasingly finer grits of sandpaper. like : 400-600-1500 and then some rubbing and polishing compound to get many items shining. Auto polishing compound even can help on the plexiglas window scratches.
Sounds like the anodizing has been removed on your boats windows frames. The scotch pads work well in cleaning the frames, but you will need to put something on them to keep them from reverting right back to where they are now. A good wax should help there. You don't want to use steel wool pads here or you will be dealing with rust for a long time. Lots of people tape off the frames then paint them after cleaning.
