On my Hunter H376 I have a few fixed "plastic" smoked porthole windows that have become hazy the tough to see thru. I am wonderiing if those headlight polishing kits would work removing the haze. I'm not sure what the portholes are made of. Anybody tried this??

Thanks. Bob.

Bob....if you were in the military you prolly spit shined your shoes at one time or another......get some flitz metal polish and test it on a spot on your window......i have used it on the plastic windows on some dodgers and it does a fair job .......

The most likely reason for smoked plastic is cleaning it with glass cleaner. Anything with ammonia is guaranteed to cause clouding and crazing. Could have been a PO, but regardless, always clean acrylic and polycarbonate glazing with dish soap, nothing more. There are plastic polishes on the market. I'll swing by the production floor tomorrow to see if I can get a brand name that works well.

If you need something more aggressive, 3M rubbing compound, followed by wax, has worked for many. Not perfect, but much better.

None of these answers refer back to headlight kit. I used one on a Volvo 240 and it did a fabulous job. I too would like to know if it can be used on a boat window. My problem is that I don`t know material mine are made of. David

bought a $5 polish kit out of a sale bin last year at Defender, but haven't tried it yet. This year when polishing with Finesse the pad caught the edge of the fixed portlight a little and I noticed it took off a lot of the haze, so I hit the corner of the portlight on purpose and it did in fact clean it up some, so I lightly rane over the whole portlight with finesse on the buffer. Noticable improvment, but still not perfect. Didn't want to overdo it and damage anything, but it probably could have taken much more than I gave it...

Yeah, I used a headlight polishing kit on my plastic portlight lenses. Worked great!

I second the use of Finesse with a power polisher. Here are the plastic headlight covers on my Mustang before and after Finesse.

try mixing a paste from baking soda and water, i used this on watches and cell phones to remove light scratches and haze.
