Cleaning electrical connectors

My mast head lights don't work. After various tests it seems that it must be the deck-top connector near the base of the mast. It's a three-prong connector. I'm inland but the boat spent its first 7 years on the coast. The connectors are brassy-looking but somewhat covered with whitish oxidation. What do I clean this with? If scrubing is required what is best to fit into the female part (be nice, guys). My autotiller connector is similar and also needs cleaning. If I jiggle the connector when it's all the way in, the power to the unit can go off and on again. ...RickM...

Electrical contacts

Rick, Had the same problem. Tried everything from spitting on them to dielectric spray and roughing them up. I ended up having to replace the 3 prong connections(male and female).Wasn't that hard to do. Got them from West Marine. The brand name is Sea Dog. Now everything works. Corrosion Buster Pen

I discoved this little item marketed by Star Brite. Page 446 of the 2004 WM catalog. I bought one from my local marina for several dollars less than WM, but that's no surprise. I was so pleased with the job this does on terminals, bulb sockets, and even surface rust in corners of S/S fittings, that I bought a second one to keep at home. Heavy use will wear it out, but for the occasional hard to clean contact at the bottom of a lamp socket, this is the nuts!! For protection of connectors, terminals, lamp bulbs and sockets, I like Boeshield T-9 spray. Corrosion Block spray is not bad either, but having both, I use the Boeshield.

Thanks, Rich

I found a Canadian supplier for the Corrosion Pen and have it ordered. Thanks!
