Cleaning around the holding tank

Hi again, Peggie.

Boat manufacturers (at least mine... Hunter), in their infinite wisdom, place the holding tank in almost inaccessible cells in the hull "pan" with no limber holes connecting it to the bilge itself, I guess so that if there's a spill, the "liquor" doesn't get pumped overboard by the bilge pump. So how the heck do I clean that area thoroughly enough, behind, around, and under the tank to make it smell like a rose? I can flush it with a hose and bilge cleaner, and pump it out with a portable pump, but that doesn't get at the more inaccessible areas of the compartment very well. Any suggestions are definitely appreciated.

Thanks.

I would make a solution of KO, load it in a garden sprayer and with your floorboards up spray all the edges and sides in sight. I would then empty the sprayer into the pan area so it can slosh under the tank.

Go sailing.

Upon return, pump out the cleaner, flush with plain water and pump out again.

Then I would spray everything I can see with CP and replace the floorboards.

I would be surprised if that doesn't do the trick.

weeelllll...

Until/unless it becomes necessary to do a LOT more than just clean up around a tank, I don't see a problem. Ok...you might have a minor spill while replacing hoses...but even that can be avoided with some extra effort.

However, I CAN see a need to remove residual odor left behind by stinky hoses in that area...in which case, spraying every surface down with full strength K.O. or PureAyre (I love pump garden spray jugs for this purpose) should solve your problem.
