I have 150 of chain and just lay it out on the dock, spray well with fresh water, wait for it to dry and put back in the cleaned up anchor locker.

And while the chain is on the dock drying

Use the time to clean the chain locker. If the chain is dirty, so's the locker...and chain lockers are the most overlooked source of odor on a boat 'cuz the same dead and decaying organisms that are the source of odor in a sea water head intake are in the chain locker too.

Use a strong detergent solution--NO BLEACH!--and a scrub brush--or better yet, a power washer--followed by a thorough rinse with plenty of clean fresh water.

If the chain is really dirty, spraying it down with a strong solution of detergent followed by a thorough rinse will get it a lot cleaner than water alone.

And as long as you're in clean mode...this would be a great time to clean the bilges too--really CLEAN 'em for a change, and rinse ALL the dirty water out, instead of just dumping in more cleaner and calling it done. You'll be amazed at how much better your whole boat will smell.

Thanks Peggy

That's a good idea using a power washer in the chain locker, really not bad I always rinse it with fresh water so not really bad just need to get my power washer back from my son and the bilge is dry but does have a little dirt but will use some soap and water than dry vac, thanks
