INTERIOR TEAK FINISH

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 1978 HUNTER THAT HAS HAD TWO PREVIOUS OWNERS,BOTH OF WHOM TOOK GREAT PAINS TO PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN HER.THEY BOTH SIMPLY WIPED THE INTERIOR TEAK DOWN TWICE A YEAR WITH LEMON PLEDGE. I JUST DID MY FIRST APPLICATION AS "SUMMER WINDS" THIRD OWNER SO AS TO CONTINUE THE TRADITION.IT HAS WORKED VERY WELL. BY THE WAY,IT SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN"GOOD FOR TEAK WOOD". NOTHING FANCY,JUST LEMON PLEDGE....AS TO THE EXTERIOR TEAK,I WILL CONSULT MY OWNER-WRITTEN OWNERS MANUAL AND WILL POST THOSE FINDINGS TOMORROW. TONY B. S/V" SUMMER WINDS"

I use TE-KA on exterior teak

There are many teak cleaners on the market. I had a quantity of the "A" bottle, and no "B" bottle of TE-KA. I called the manufacturer, and in less than a week, I had received enough to do the job. GRATIS! The cleaner worked great with minimum work. Wipe on and hose off. I highly recommend it. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty http://www.LakeOntarioSailing.com

exterior teak

External use -I've been using Lysol DIRECT. It really softens the moldies after about3- 5 minutes. Then gently rub off the crud with a dobie pad and water hose. Jim McCue

Starbrite (ext), WB Urethane (Int)

I tried everythnig. My goal was and continues to be "Spend more time sailing, minimum time on maintenance." I now use Starbrite Classic teak sealer on my 88 H28.5 external teak (helmseat, companionway and handrails). I coat in the spring lasts all year. I receive many compliments on it, as well. On my interior bulkheads, nav desk, etc. I applied 4 coats of water-based urethane (quick dry, no mess, no fumes). In the spring (and any time I feel leke spiffing it up a bit) I use lemon pledge to brighten it up, get rid of smoke, etc. On the sole, I used 3 coats of oil-based urethane 5 years ago. Still looks great. Hope this helps!

AMAZONS

I use TE-KA to clean outside and then oil with AMAZONS. Good Stuff. Interior is real simple. Use Lemon Oil. (Pledge is good, It has lemon oil in it making it work well, it's just way more expensive) One bottel of Lemon Oil approx $5.00 has lasted me about 4 years. just wipe on and leave. It not only cleans and peotects tghe teak, but makes the cabin smell great.
