Suggestions for a cleaning solution for the prop and Shaft? Also, do you coat it with anything to protect it?

What I Use

Hi, Prep shaft and prop to clean bright metal. Cover with 3 coats of Rustoleum metal primer - brush applied (follow directions - solvent clean etc.). 2-3 coats of Micron ablative bottom paint. First time I only put one coat of metal primer, 2-3 coats of bottom paint. A real last minute rush job. Not bad but obvious the metal primer is critical. You need a thick heavy duty primer. I sail to and from the mooring = weeks on end w/o starting the engine. The prop and shaft looked like a mop w/o bottom paint and speed under power was 4.5 kt tops. Always (or intended) to clean the prop before 1-2 week cruise. Now I launch and haul w no shaft cleans. Good Luck, Bob

Elena, I've been using Desitin on all bright...

work below the waterline. It worked great on our boat. I applied two heavy coats, letting each coat set overnight. I rubbed it in real good. Lasted a full season. Terry

Tammy, yup. Made of zinc oxide. It was...

recommended by the yard and one year later the bright work was still shiney. Year two a small amount of marine growth. Terry
