Clam Cleats

If your jib sheets are jumping out of the Clam Cleats used on your H260, there are tapered pads available which should solve the problem by changing the angle at which the line enters the cleat. I was unable to find the pads in either the Boat US or West Marine catalogs, but you can get information by visiting www.clamcleat.com and contact the company through their web site. Ralph C. I replace the stock cleats

I replace the stock cleats that came woth my 23.5 with plastic ones from Ronstan that were the same size but gripped the line much better. I also put a inch block under the cleats to raise them and improve the angle of the line leading into them. Since then I have neve had a line jump out. Total cost was less than $30.

Upgrade to cam cleats

Take a look in the Photo Forum; "240 jib cam cleats" posted by Mark Kissel. I made a similar solution on AMFI, it works great and it is a must for singlehandling.

Trash the Clam Cleats !

My first season with a H23.5 was a nuisance. Every gust would pop a line out of the cam-cleat. I replaced them with a set of 3 Spinlocks which capture the line and have a positive clutch action, an absolute necessity for single-handing. The Spinlocks fit on the original cabin-top pad and even re-used two of the holes and all the screws. We no longer need to wear gloves and when it rains, we still have full control of the lines. Cam Cleat Jumping

I bought the 1" high - 15 degree cam lifts, so the jib sheet naturally sliped into the cam cleat when pulled... but the cam cleat still slips. And the cleat is made by Ronsted? suppose to be a good name. I don't understand why they'd install something that doesn't work. We're not taking about a lot of money either.

Mine are OK with mods

Hi Frank,I guess that the cleats on my '01 would be the same as yours. I added the riser as others have done and added the retainer over the top. With the longer screws needed it was still very little money. Mine are now easy to use and hold well. If you do change the cleats themselves the spinlocks like Rick W. was talking about work great and are easy to use. I had them on my last boat for the jib sheets.Good Luck,Joe C. in NC
