I am going for a circumnavigation and need a strong, reliable yacht that can fight the blue ocean and bring us safely and comfortable through the seven oceans. During the last 10-15 years a lot of new and fancy boats are produced, and I have sailed new 50s produced by Janneau, Beneteau, Sweden Yachts and Bavaria. But the best experience has been the Atlantic crossing in an Idylle 15.50. Her long keel, her fairly high displacement, the “cutter tack” (2nd genoa) and her high and sheltered cockpit gives a stabile and comfortable sailing. My plans are to buy a 15.50 for this purpose. It will be an old lady, but compared to all the newer yachts that are pushed to the market through effective production lines, my appreciation is that the Beneteau Idylle 15.50 is one of the strongest sailing yachts that are. However, I would very much appreciate to find a reference to someone that has taken this grand old lady around the world and still is alive! There are a lot of matters I would like to discuss before I put $200.000 + into such purchasing.
