Dear all,

May I just reflect the sentiments of Brian Hofler and also wish the VEGAtarians, (thats a good word), a very happy Christmas, prosperous New Year and good sailing in the forthcoming season.
For the record Brian, yes I would prefer to be cruising where you are. Its got to be better than a cold, grey depressing winters day in the Mersey estuary.

Can I also encourage everbody to post their tips, experiences, problems etc on this site and keep it alive and well, its certainly been a help to me. I still have some outstanding questions with regard to sails and rig set up but I don't want to interfere with your Christmas celebrations !!

All the very best for now.

Holiday Greetings and Reflections From New York City:

We live less than a brisk 25 minute walk from ground zero. Every day including on 9/11 I would take the Path Train from our beloved World Trade Center Complex to New Jersey to my office. On 9/11, I was in the World Trade Center Complex after the first plane hit and scant minutes before the second terrorist plane struck its mortal blow. I was forced to make a quick decision and opted to sprint for one of the last two trains to leave the WTC. There was no panic after the first plane hit. After the second plane hit, there was pandemonium. I had quite an adventure getting home since all trains, bridges and tunnels were shut down. There were people from all over the world stranded in Newark and as a "local" I helped to direct many to points south and west by car and rail. For days, our neighborhood was covered with white ash and soot. For weeks, every time the wind was out of the Southwest we would smell the acrid scent of fires still burning at ground zero. The smell was like one encounters when you burn a little insulation to bare a wire lead before making a connection. I made a lot of friends commuting from the WTC over the years. Debra and I would often walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and enjoy some frozen custard and coffee ogling the world class yachts on the waterfront in front of the World Financial Center right across the pedestrian bridge from the World Trade Center. I hope to live to see the giant hole in the ground that was once our Trade Center to once again come alive with some of the commerce, tourists, shopping, and dining that drew so many to this great City from all over the globe. In the meantime, we have a new perspective on life........

Sending herewith Christmas and Holiday Best wishes to all Vega Skippers, crew and friends out there, we sincerely hope that all of you may enjoy a healthy, prosperous, and most of all peaceful New Year, with (of course) fair, fresh, wind and more sunny days than not..........

Thanks for the greeting, Jim. It was nice to hear your un-sentimentalized
account of the your experience in 9/11 World Trade Center collapse. For
many of us out here in the hinterland it is an overwelming yet
de-personalized tragedy.

Merry Christmas,

Steve
