Choosing the correct feathering prop

I am about to purchase an Autostream feathering prop. I currently have a 3 blade fixed 480 diameter prop. It has been difficult to obtain the correct reduction ratio. My Yanmar 50hp manual states it has a 1:1.47 ratio but the box is stamped 2.63. Is it safe to assume the gearbox is correct?

gear box ratio

My first thougth is to assume that the box has the correct ratio marked on it.Just to be sure it is the correct one have a prop shop run the calucations for both ratio and the correct one should be easy to match against the spec.

Turn the engine one rev and check the shaft revs to find out for sure. Rick D. PS: I purchased an autostream folder for my 40.5 and am very satisfied with it

Gear Box

Hello Mike, The gear box reduction gear ratio 2.63, that you listed, is a standard. The manufacture of the transmission Yanmar uses stamps the reduction gear ratio on the tag attached to the trans. They should have also stamped it on the engine serial plate. The 1:1.47 is not standard and if listed that way would indicate a reverse reduction. Good luck. Kevin

Thankyou to gearbox ratio

Thank to you all for such a quick response. The gearbox stamp seem to be the correct one. It's great to get replies from the other side of the world.
