Choke cable problems

I have a Columbia 8.7 and have to replace the choke. The problem is the pull is 90 degrees to the choke. In other words I am pulling east and the choke has to move south. After three attempts I can get it to pull out but not push in. My thoughts were too sharp a bend at the T handle or too cheap a cable. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

You can try increasing the radius of the 90deg bend or creat a loop with large enough diameter that is suitable for the cable. Also if the cable is old, you may want to consider getting new ones.

I used to put 3 in 1 oil on the exposed cable for my Yanmar fuel shutoff. It made a big difference especially if it was done regularly. It wasn't supposed to work but I think most of the corrosion occurs in the areas immediately adjacent to the exposed end. Maybe some PB Blaster?
